There’s a new website in town! – all about Jane Austen’s Steventon. Jane Austen birthday place
Steventon is the village where Jane Austen was born, grew up and wrote three of her famous works; Pride & Prejudice, Northanger Abbey and Sense & Sensibility. Her father was the rector of the parish, and was followed by her brother James. The church where they preached and Jane worshipped still stands, although the rectory where they lived was pulled down in 1824.
Richard Tanner has spent many a year researching the history of the area around Steventon and North Waltham. He is currently the village archivist for North Waltham and was instrumental in forming a local history society as well.
